12.3 million children at risk

Afghanistan is in the grip of one of the world’s largest, most complex humanitarian emergencies, with 12.3 million children at risk.

In fact, more than 800,000 children currently need treatment for severe malnutrition. They urgently need your help.

The food shortages are so bad that children suffering from severe hunger will die without help, and safe drinking water and vaccinations are also badly needed.

Afghanistan is still struggling with the impact of years of war along with endless natural disasters. There were 153 earthquake tremors across the country from January to June 2024 while heavy rain caused deadly flooding.

Children need someone to stand up for their rights too, in a country where access to education is restricted and girls are barred from secondary school.

You can help us save and protect these children.

What UNICEF is Doing

Moustapha couldn’t move his hands or legs. He was too weak to even cry. At 45-days old, he was struggling to survive due to severe malnutrition.

But UNICEF gave him some therapeutic milk. After 12 days in a health unit, he recovered and is breastfeeding again.

Your support can save babies like Moustapha.

And your donations will help our other work too, such as:

  • Helping 18 million people access healthcare.
  • Providing 442,000 people with safe drinking water.
  • Treating 272,000 children for severe wasting.
  • Connecting 2.8 million people with psychosocial support.
  • Vaccinating 700,000 children against measles.
45 day old Moustapha receives therapeutic milk at the UNICEF-supported therapeutic feeding unit.
