Beirut Explosion

By now, you’ve likely seen the videos that gave a devastating and heartbreaking look into one of the biggest industrial explosions in Lebanon’s history.

The explosions immediately wiped out part of the city’s port district, shattering windows and buildings.

We are very concerned that children are among the casualties and that those who survived are under shock.

According to latest reports, the death toll has now surpassed 100 people. A further 4,000 are wounded and 300,000 people have been forced to leave their damaged homes.

Children are among the casualties and we are extremely concerned for those who are now traumatised, in shock and without shelter.

Facilities providing safe water and vaccines to surrounding communities have been damaged; putting our existing work to protect children during a recent surge in coronavirus cases at risk. Three main hospitals in Beirut are severely damaged including a UNICEF-supported newborn unit near the port.

Right now UNICEF, is on the ground preparing to support children and their families but we can’t do this without you.

UNICEF Ireland’s Work in Lebanon

UNICEF has a long history of humanitarian work in Lebanon.

Since the 1950’s we’ve worked to protect Lebanon’s children from disease, hunger, malnutrition and poverty.

Through vaccination, maternal healthcare, education and sanitation programs we’ve striven to ensure the Lebanon’s children survive and thrive.
