Mark Jamer 10, helps his mother and 7-year old sister Maite Julia wash clothes with a UNICEF water container. The family lost their home and all their belongings when Typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines six months ago. Unable to return home, they are still sheltering in the Astrodome sports stadium in Tacloban. Both children have returned school.

Six months on, despite challenges, there are promising signs of recovery across the affected regions – thanks to the massive outpouring of global support, combined with the  remarkable resilience of the affected Filipino population.

With the help of our generous donors, UNICEF immunised more than 80,000 children, helped a million people with access to safe water, reached 25,000 children with the psychological support they needed and restored 18,000 classrooms so children could return to school.

Our focus is on restoring essential social services and building back better to help create more resilient communities – ones where children will be safe in future emergencies.
