Free Wills Network

When writing a Will, many people will choose to sit down with their local solicitor to seek advice and discuss the best way to gift their assets. We have partnered with the Free Wills Network which is working with charities across Ireland.

They have approximately 70 solicitors registered with them who will make your Will for free. All participating solicitors are registered with the Law Society of Ireland.

Write your Free Will and Testament with Free Wills Network

If the Free Wills Network sounds like the right option for you, here are the steps you need to take:

1. Get in touch with us and provide your address and contact details.
2. Within 5-7 working days, you will receive an information pack from the Free Wills Network, which will include the list of participating solicitors close to where you live. The pack will also include the terms and conditions and a Will Planner. These will help you plan and prepare for your consultation with your chosen solicitor.
3. Arrange an appointment with your preferred solicitor from the list provided.
4. Complete and sign the “Confidential Declaration Form” for the solicitor. This will be in your pack and will be returned to the Free Wills Network by your solicitor to confirm that you have availed of the service.

Making a Will Online

For those who prefer the convenience of making an online Will, LawOnline offers users a free, easy-to-use will-making service. The web-based service enables users to draft their own personal legal documents including a comprehensive range of Wills in the comfort of their own home.

LawOnline range of online Will templates are drafted in compliance with Irish law.  Once you have drafted your Will you have the option to have it reviewed by one of their solicitors at a small additional fee.

Next Steps to Creating your Will Online

1. Contact our Gifts in Wills Manager; Pauline (pauline@unicef.ie)
2. Pauline will send you an information Legacy Booklet which includes your voucher code and some useful tips and information.
3. Visit lawonline.ie and select ‘Personal Documents’ and you will see Wills at the bottom of the list and choose the type of Will you wish to make.
4. Select ‘Digital Only or ‘With Solicitor Review’.
5. Enter the relevant voucher code reference for the type of Will selected.  You can then proceed to write your Will.
6. Once you have it completed, you just print and have it signed and witnessed.

There are a series of prompted questions which help you through the process, step by step.  You also can see your progress and pause and save your document should you wish to complete it later.

How to Leave a Gift to UNICEF in your Will

If you make the very generous decision to leave a legacy gift to UNICEF in your Will, there is some information you will need to include. The details you will need are

When writing your Will you can choose to leave a specific amount, or you may wish to consider leaving a percentage of your estate once all your loved ones are provided for. Many do find this option the best as by choosing to leave a percentage, the proportion of your legacy gift will remain the same, regardless of whether the value of your assets increase or decrease in the future.

Suggested wording could be as follows:

“I give and bequeath (a set % – in figures and words) to UNICEF Ireland, 33, Lower Ormond Quay, Dublin 1 – Registered Charity Number 20008727 and (CHY 6516) to be used for its general charitable purposes”.
