Thank you. It is your support that allows UNICEF to provide children with life-saving supplies like health care, food, water and sanitation. It is your support that keeps us on the ground in emergencies. Your gifts have helped us expand our capacity and save children living through conflict and natural disasters.
There are more children in need of humanitarian assistance now than at any other time since the Second World War. Across the globe, children are bearing the brunt of an unprecedented combination of deadly crises – from conflict and displacement to infectious disease outbreaks and soaring rates of malnutrition. Meanwhile, climate change is are exacerbating these existing crises even more.
But the situation is far from hopeless and it is because of people like you. In 2022, the people of Ireland showed extraordinary support for the world’s children, with many of you choosing to support UNICEF with your donations. Your support is invaluable and we hope you continue to support UNICEF’s work for children in 2023.

Ukraine: You’re Giving Warmth
As winter deepened and attacks on energy infrastructure left most families struggling to stay warm, your gifts helped us deliver 150 tonnes of help including blankets, and warm winter clothing produced locally in Irpin as part of a UNICEF programme to help children and the local community. You are also helping us to run over 140 warm spaces for children to play and receive essential medical care.
Divia, 5 years old, and Damia, 8 years, their mother Olga, 36, came to Romania from Zaporizhzhia, a city in the south-eastern Ukraine.
Somalia: You’re Giving Health Care
Drought, conflict and the long-term effects of COVID-19 are all having an impact on children’s lives. Your gifts are funding mobile clinics in Somalia to reach vulnerable children living in hard-to-reach areas with essential health services like immunisation and nutrition treatment. Health workers also give out hygiene kits, which help children stay healthy and live with dignity.
Yemen: You’re Giving Food
In Yemen where approximately 2.2 million children under the age of five are suffering from acute malnutrition, your gifts are helping us to scale up early detection and treatment for child malnutrition through the provision of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF). This paste, made of peanuts, sugar, milk powder, oil, vitamins and minerals, has everything a child needs to recover
from malnutrition at home.
A child who has been suffering from malnutrition, is fed with Plumpy Nut at Al-khatabiah health facility in Tur Al-Bahah, Lahj governorate, Yemen.
Pakistan: You’re Giving a Future
Since the devastating floods between June and October last year, education for more than two million children in Pakistan remains completely inaccessible with nearly 27,000 schools destroyed or damaged. But thanks to you, eight-year-old Ameer is now attending a temporary learning centre established by UNICEF in her area, which was one of the hardest hit.
In Jacobabad, Sindh province, Pakistan, 8-year-old Ameer Zadi goes to school for the first time since UNICEF established a temporary learning centre in her area, which was one of the worst hit by recent flooding.
